25 percent capital gains tax

If you are paying taxes in Germany, tax exemption orders will be an important issue for you. This is because capital gains are tax exempt up to a certain limit. A tax exemption order will ensure that you will only be paying capital gains tax on capital gains exceeding this tax-free allowance.

If you do not set up a tax exemption order or your capital gains exceed your tax-free allowance, your Sparkasse will pay a standard tax of 25 percent of all of your capital gains to the tax authorities as well as solidarity tax and, where applicable, church tax. That means that it is definitely worth taking action and setting up a tax exemption order. This will save you a lot of time with your tax returns, because there won't be any need to claim back overpaid tax. For more information, please contact one of our advisers.
